PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

October 18 2010 to October 24 2010

Monday October 18
Eat, Meat, Compete

Dear Jonathan,
You recently criticised a vegan who started eating meat and wrote a book. But I see his point. I was a vegetarian in the 70s but I became too spaced out. I now eat animals to help me compete with other meat-eaters. Debra

Dear Debra,
I've got nothing against carnivorism but I always feel sad when people abandon lifelong commitments in a storm of self-justification. Now please clarify, when you say 'spaced out' do you mean being vegetarian got you high? And do you really now win more battles, the more meat you eat?

Tuesday October 19
Long Terms and Conditions

Dear Jonathan,
If each passing moment harbours a seed of infinite potential and our chance to manifest this is influenced by what we do or don't intuit at any given moment, how can a long-term forecast still work? If for example, someone turns 'a trying week' into one that feels easy, the rest of the forecast won't apply any more. Or what if they narrowly miss bringing 'a magical month' into being? James

Dear James,
I base my long-term predictions on planetary influences that are slower to change and more likely to bring 'recurring challenges' or opportunities.

Wednesday October 20
Launch of a Relationship

Hi Jonathan,
Venus is retrograde. That's supposed to be a bad time for starting a relationship. But when, for astrological purposes, would a relationship be deemed to have begun? The first time the two people notice each other? The first time they speak? After a few dates? Lee

Dear Lee,
Who says this is a bad time for starting a relationship? I'm more inclined to see this as a very good time to start one! As to when relationships officially commence, that's a... er... good question. I hereby open a debate on this page. Opinions please!

Thursday October 21
Magic Sky

Have you been watching the Moon this week? Shining brightly to the side of it is Jupiter. That's a classic 'conjunction'; two heavenly objects close together in the sky. It's actually a triple conjunction. If you're keen on astronomy... or you've got one of those new fangled sky-search applications on a smart phone... or you happen to have a decent telescope, you'll find Uranus very near Jupiter. It's too distant to see with the naked eye but that makes 'the magician' even more magical. This heavenly picture is exceptionally auspicious for all with hope and kindness in their hearts.

Friday October 22
In Tune with the Full Moon

Hi Jonathan,
This October has five Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It is 823 years since that last happened. Manu

Dear Manu,
Actually, there were also five Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October 2004. October 2021 will also have them! But odd combinations of days and dates don't excite astrologers. Far more inspiring, to us, are Full Moons like tonight's. If you've been watching it grow this week, you may have noticed it seems exceptionally 'intense'. This is the second of two Full Moons, this year in Aries. It has something to say, to us all, about a fresh start.

Saturday October 23
Your Week Ahead

This week begins with the year's second full moon in Aries. For all born under the sign of the ram, there's a rare second chance coming up - after it seemed all choices had already been made. And for the rest of us? A similar sense of 'deja vu'. We have been, once before, somewhere like where we are now. We can learn from past errors, draw on the confidence that only experience can bring, and start trying once more to put right something that seems to have gone wrong. If effort is sincere, the likelihood of success is high.

Sunday October 24
Your Week Ahead Part Two

This week begins with the year's second full moon in Aries. For all born under the sign of the ram, there's a rare second chance coming up - after it seemed all choices had already been made. And for the rest of us? A similar sense of 'deja vu'. We have been, once before, somewhere like where we are now. We can learn from past errors, draw on the confidence that only experience can bring, and start trying once more to put right something that seems to have gone wrong. If effort is sincere, the likelihood of success is high.
