The Moon
The Moon has been Humanity's closest companion since the beginning of time. Her presence and movements in the sky have inspired and enlightened us for millennia, invoking a sense of solace and awe.
The Moon may be in an eternal state of flux but her movements are the most reliable cosmic force. She is our closest celestial body and her influence on our lives is immensely important and powerful. In 2025, in the middle of her two Eclipse seasons, we experience the pinnacle of an 18.6-year cycle of her orbit around the Earth, the Lunar Standstill.
Lunar Standstill
If you imagine the Moon as a pendulum, swinging back and forth in the sky. Most of the time, it follows a path we are more familiar with, staying within a certain range of declination (how high or low it appears from the horizon). But during a Major Lunar Standstill, like the one we're seeing in 2025, the Moon moves to the absolute maximum extremes. It travels much farther North and South than usual. This is visually dramatic and will feel emotionally potent. The Moon will be rising observably higher and lower in the sky as we approach this maximum point.
But it's not just about what we can see. It's about what we all feel. After all, the Moon is the celestial body of emotions, intuition, and cycles. When it moves to its extremes, it's like our inner world doing the same. This may feel like being pulled in different directions, experiencing intense highs and lows, and feeling sometimes like you are on an exhilarating emotional rollercoaster. Attuning to the rhythm of the Moon and trusting that her wisdom will guide you through this period is a way to connect with this energy and to allow it to bring about huge shifts in your perspective which allow for incredible healing.
Humanity has always been in awe of the Moon. In ancient times, the Lunar Standstill was marked with rituals, stories, and stone circles. Many of these monuments align with the extreme positions of the Moon. These alignments send a message which is both sacred and still significant to this day. We are connected infinitely to the Moon and her movements. Paying attention, honouring and flowing with the Moon, really matters.
Astrologically, the Lunar Standstill is like an emotional amplifier. It heightens sensitivity, stirs intuition, and encourages deep reflection.
The Standstill reminds us that the journey through life is never a straight line. We swing like a pendulum between joy and sorrow, clarity and confusion and hope and despair. We cannot avoid the inevitability of life's extremes. The events we experience which mark our existence with a cosmic highlighter and focus us on these pivotal shifts are incredibly important. Although loss and grief feel unbearable, they teach us the beauty and joy in loving and living. The key is to find a balance. The Pendulum always swings back to the centre. The Moon's journey this year is teaching us how to do that too.
The Eclipses of 2025
While the Lunar Standstill sets the emotional tone, the eclipses this year bring an opportunity for transformation. These are the markers on the calendar which tend to catalyse a point in our lives where things shift, often, dramatically. Eclipses reveal what has been hidden, they teach us about the world we live in and about ourselves. Each Eclipse has a unique cosmic energy determined by the astrological activity in the sky at that moment. They remind us of the shadows in the universe and the contrast between dark and light. These celestial events are like cosmic doorways. Between eclipses, we step into a portal where anything feels possible. Paths open up to us that we hadn't quite seen before. They might nudge us gently, or (let's be honest) occasionally they give us a cosmic shove or a pretty rude awakening. But even when the road feels uncertain, eclipses always carry the seeds of new beginnings.
Eclipse No.1 - 14th March 2025
If ever there was a sign to bring order to chaos, Virgo would wear the crown. And this Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo is a clarion call to pause and reflect on what's working in our lives—and what isn't. Imagine you're tidying up a cluttered drawer. We all have one. This Eclipse is akin to the moment when we try to close it and find it jammed with so much 'might be useful for later' stuff that it spills out. We end up forced to address it. Virgo, ever the perfectionist, urges you to sort, organise, and approach things with a Marie Kondo-like attitude. Emotionally we hold on to all sorts of memories and responses. Some of these are important for helping us to cope and keep us safe. Others serve us for a time but are no longer worth the space they take up in our metaphorical drawer. This process of unpicking things is difficult but necessary. It is only through the process of analysing our emotions and putting them where they belong, that we can free ourselves to enjoy the lives we work so hard to create. During this eclipse, the Moon in Virgo might inspire you to reevaluate not just your actual junk drawer but your habits, routines, and even the beliefs you cling to. You may find that the Moon reveals areas where you've been overly critical, especially of yourself.
Whilst often labelled as being a perfectionist energy, this Virgo Eclipse is not holding you to an impossible standard but revealing to you the reality of where you may have settled for less than you deserve. This Eclipse begins a process of healing and authenticity but, as anybody who has tidied anything knows, things tend to get messier before they fall into order!
Eclipse No.2 - 29th March 2025
The end of March 2025 brings us a Partial Solar Eclipse in Aries. The First sign of the zodiac is a trailblazer and brings enthusiasm and warmth to this Solar Eclipse. Solar Eclipses tend to bring about fresh starts and new beginnings and in Aries, the energy for pioneering into new territory and fighting for something exciting is heightened. The theme of this Eclipse is courage. Where have you been holding back? What dreams or ideas have been bubbling beneath the surface, waiting for their moment? Aries' energy reminds us that no matter how much we plan there is no such thing as a 'perfect time' for anything. It encourages us to go for it, to leap into action and make things happen.
Of course, leaping into the unknown can feel daunting. But Aries has the wisdom to teach us that hesitation is often more draining than action, even if that action doesn't guarantee successful outcomes. Sometimes, the universe doesn't want you to have all the answers before you begin. Sometimes, it's about trusting that the road will rise to meet you and being brave enough to take the first step. However, if this Aries Eclipse has a warning label attached to it, it is a reminder to pace yourself. Putting one foot in front of the other will work much better than trying to run before you can walk.
This is an Eclipse to set yourself ambitious intentions under. This Fire New Moon will infuse intentions with sparks of eager blessings but to turn them into a blaze that can be relied on you need to balance out that fire with other elements too. Being brave enough to start a journey of development or the pursuit of a passion is the hardest step and this Eclipse is revealing just how easy it can be to begin.
Eclipse No.3 - 7th September 2025
The first Lunar Eclipse of the second season of 2025 is in the transcendental sign of Pisces. The Full Moon Eclipse in the final sign of the zodiac may signify endings and push us towards letting go of unrealistic expectations. There is poetry in parting with routines which no longer work for us and, with Mercury conjoining the Sun, there can be real healing found in releasing the truth about how we feel and through communicating our deeper emotions clearly.
This Eclipse is likely to amplify our emotional state as Jupiter connects with it from water sign Cancer. This is a moment to immerse yourself in the ocean of your emotions and let your intuition lead you towards where you need to let go.
Pisces' energy is soft, fluid, and spiritual. It tempts us to surrender—a word that can feel a little unsettling in our goal-driven world. But surrendering here doesn't mean giving up; it means letting go of control and trusting that the cosmos will carry you on its current and take you to exactly where you need to go.
This eclipse may stir up deep feelings, even long-buried dreams or wounds. You might find yourself asking: 'What or who do I need to forgive?' And yes, sometimes the answer is "yourself."
Pisces reminds us that healing isn't linear, and not everything needs to be neatly solved or understood. Some mysteries are meant to be felt, not figured out. Allowing the waves of this eclipse to cleanse you of outdated fears, reconnect you to your imagination, and invite you to dream a life free from limitations and self-doubt.
If things get intense under this Eclipse, ground yourself in small acts of kindness - to yourself and others. Sometimes, a soft heart can be the strongest shield.
Final Eclipse of 2025 - 21st September
The Solar Eclipse in Virgo opposes Saturn in Pisces. Saturn, having recently returned from a brief interlope into Aries has rediscovered a fresh passion for order and control and, connecting to Uranus and Pluto during this Eclipse, it plays a significant part in empowering the intentions set under this New Moon Eclipse. Oppositions can feel like a pull in different directions but they also tend to motivate us into action.
A Virgo Eclipse without this formation might have led us in ever smaller circles examining every critical detail of the plans we make. Saturn's influence imparts a pearl of wisdom to balance this overthinking with revelations about the bigger picture. This is a powerful Eclipse and promises tangible shifts in the way we think about ourselves and the role we play in shaping our own future. Practical wisdom, spiritual growth, and major breakthroughs are impossible to avoid under this Eclipse.
Solar eclipses bring opportunities to plant seeds, and Virgo's methodical nature encourages us to set intentions with precision. This isn't about rushing into something new. Instead, it's about taking stock, refining your approach, and committing to a path that feels both purposeful and sustainable. Saturn's retrograde energy might bring up questions like: "Are my dreams grounded in reality? Have I built a solid foundation for what I'm trying to grow?"
But don't let Saturn's reputation as the "taskmaster" of the zodiac weigh you down. This energy is an anchor which allows us the safety we need to create something incredible. This isn't about punishment; it's about preparation. Saturn's influence invites you to trust the process, even if it feels slow or challenging at times. Sometimes, the universe wants to make sure you're truly ready before giving you the green light.
So, what's the best way to navigate this energy? Embrace Virgo's knack for planning and Pisces' gift for dreaming. Combine structure with imagination. This is a moment to align your actions with your deepest values and set intentions that feel both practical and inspired.
One thing to remember in 2025
You are resilient, adaptable, and endlessly capable of growth. Trust the process. After all, even the darkest eclipse gives way to light.
So, the next time you see the Moon hanging low on the horizon or catch an eclipse lighting up the sky, pause. Take it in. Feel the connection between you, the Earth, and the vast cosmos. After all, the Universe isn't just out there; it's within you too.
