June 4th to June 8th
MONDAY JUNE 4 Understanding life Years ago, when my wife died, I grew eager to learn all that I could about death. I spoke to everyone who looked as if they might know; scientific researchers, philosophers and religious scholars. Of the many things I heard, only one really touched me. On a visit to India, an elderly gentleman said, "If you want to understand what death is all about, you must first understand what life is all about." Lets stay on this topic for a few more days. One way or another, it interests us all. Which is more than can be said about the election.
TUESDAY JUNE 5 Somewhere over the rainbow "Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly..." Carol Springman feels that those words represent "the magic of the reality on the other side. We can all remember it in our hearts but we just can't remember how to recreate it." In another e.mail, Jan R. Blikom says "If we could see existence for what it really is, the concepts of life and death would be meaningless." Geoff Sanderson adds, on the subject of 'nowhere', that "It is a place full of house and car keys. I frequently ask my wife, 'Where have you put my keys?' The answer is always the same. 'Nowhere.'
WEDNESDAY JUNE 6 Somewhere A reader called Lola writes "I believe that nowhere, as some people term it, is somewhere. It is just as well we don't know where that somewhere is or some people might cheat." Graham Irwin, author of Enlightenment for beginners, writes in to point out that "The somewhere that we go to when we die is the same place we go to in our sleep. It is the same place from where we get what we call inspiration. It is our real home." And Paul Overman offers a poem. "Ashes to ashes, Dust to dust, A form of pollution, That is us."
THURSDAY JUNE 7 Election day in UK Today in the UK, we have an election going on... Imagine if, in the third world, some tinpot dictator set up an election using the system that we use, here in Britain. There would be international outrage. I predict that, by 2011, it will have finally gone.
FRIDAY JUNE 8 Election results There is an election going on in the UK - I don't need to wait for the result of the vote. I'm an astrologer. I know it already! This means I can write my bit early but make it sound like I did it late. Clever eh? Actually you don't need to be an astrologer to do this trick. You can do it, even when the opinion polls are vague. For there is only sure thing about any election. No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in!
