September 10th to September 14th
MONDAY SEPTEMBER 10 Astrological Association conference My brain is aching slightly. That's because it has been stretched, most enjoyably, this weekend. I have been with nearly 300 people, in Cirencester, England, at the annual conference of the Astrological Association. Later this week, I'll tell about you some of the amazing things I heard - and learned. First though, an invitation. If you'd like to come to next year's conference - or if you want to learn about astrology - or if you already are an astrologer and would like the fellowship of like minded folk - the "AA" would love you to join them. Email them for details at [email protected] or call 020 8 880 4848 or write to the Astrological Association, Tottenham Hale, London N17 9LN, England, UK.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11 John Martyn's birthday and new Birthday words section A funny thing happened to me on the way home from the Astrological Association conference. I took a wrong turn and wound up in the wilds of Wiltshire. As I passed through a small town, hoping to get directions, everything was shut apart from one antique shop. There inside, balancing on a chair, was an old picture I had been long been hunting for. Feeling very pleased, I set off with my purchase - and my directions - and I started to think about what to say in my Thought for the Day today. I put on a tape and the voice of John Martyn, one of my favourite singers, began to ring out. Then, I had a sudden thought. "He's a Virgo isn't he? I wonder when his birthday is?" Turns out, it's today! Meanwhile, you may have already noticed our new section - Birthday words - find out who was born today and what they said... the link's in the left hand frame.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 12 Terrorism Is there any message, any lesson, any moral to be drawn from these unspeakably evil developments? I am still wracking my brains and searching my soul. All I can think is that somehow, it serves to remind us all that our time on earth is fleeting. We none of us know how long it will last. We can none of us be sure that the familiar security of daily life will not be suddenly shattered. So, surely, we had better learn to live more lightly. We had better see each moment as a gift. We had better be grateful for each moment of time that we have, while we have it. And we had better pray just as hard for those who committed the crime as for those who suffered from it. For at the heart of this ugly event is the same poison that has been hurting humanity since the dawn of time. Intolerance.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 13 Terrorism Is there any message, any lesson, any moral to be drawn from these unspeakably evil developments? I am still wracking my brains and searching my soul. All I can think is that somehow, it serves to remind us all that our time on earth is fleeting. We none of us know how long it will last. We can none of us be sure that the familiar security of daily life will not be suddenly shattered. So, surely, we had better learn to live more lightly. We had better see each moment as a gift. For at the heart of this ugly event is the same poison that has been hurting humanity since the dawn of time. Intolerance. NOTE: Tomorrow, on this page, several eminent astrologers will look at the future - and how we are going to get to it from here. Together, we will answer as many questions as we can, including; "Was this all predicted long ago?" and "Is this the beginning of the end?" But in case you don't want to wait for the answer to that second question, here it is now. No.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14 Astrological analysis Many people, in the last three days, have said "Why didn't astrologers see this coming?" But astrologers are not clairvoyants. Clairvoyants may sometimes see "a vision of the future" with their purely psychic powers. But astrologers use careful calculations to address very specific questions. We can't answer questions we have not asked. I never asked myself if the events of Terror Tuesday were likely. I never even imagined that something so horrible could happen. Nor did anyone else. Some people in my profession, though, did see 'something'. As you can read, (see link below) my friend and colleague Steve Judd had some chilling insight into world events when he stood in for me during my August break. And, of course, there are many who feel that astrologer and clairvoyant Nostradamus 'foresaw' the whole thing over 400 years ago.
