September 24th to September 29th 2007
MONDAY September 24 The fascination of ancient teachings Before the Pharaohs, the Babylonians reigned supreme in the Middle East. Their beliefs were shaped by the priests - all of whom were serious astronomers. Chaldean star knowledge long held sway over the hearts and minds of millions. The Egyptians absorbed it and, it is said, the three wise men were versed in that same mystic tradition. Some also claim that, many centuries earlier, Abraham followed Chaldean teachings too. Till now, I've never paid too much attention to the many astrological references in the Old Testament. I felt too intimidated by conventional mainstream guardians of this ancient knowledge. Suddenly, I'm fascinated. |
TUESDAY September 25 Egypt Dear Jonathan, You recently wrote about your trip to Egypt and the similarities between Egyptian and Mayan structures. I have seen strong evidence that the engineering calculations used in ancient Egypt and Mesoamerica were identical, down to the decimal places. I doubt these were parallel developments. I think the cultures communicated. Carl Dear Carl, |
WEDNESDAY September 26 Full Moon over the world It's nearly full now. Round and bright. Looming large, inspiring awe and stirring excitement, all over the globe. Over Sydney Harbour and the Golden Gate Bridge. The Tyne and the Nile. The Taj Mahal and the Tower of Pisa. Everest and Kilimanjaro. Mecca and Jerusalem. Beijing and Tokyo. The Kremlin and the Vatican. The Arctic and the Antarctic. What a big round world we share. And what a big round Moon we can all see in the sky. Why, it's almost enough to make you wonder whether, perhaps, we really are just one big family, sharing the same precious home. |
THURSDAY September 27 I think to myself.. what a wonderful moon There it is, again tonight. Up in the sky, same as it was this time last month. And the month before. The cosmic clock. The heavenly timekeeper. The ever-changing, never-wavering, invariably-inspiring Moon. Focus of a thousand love stories. Backdrop to a billion dramas. Breathtaking. Beautiful. Full Moons always rise at sunset. They have to because they can't be Full unless they are opposite the Sun. Likewise, they can only occur in the opposite sign to the one that the Sun is in. The Sun is now passing through Libra. Tonight the Moon is in Aries. |
FRIDAY September 28 Something in the air... A new comet has been discovered. You can't see it unless you happen to have a high powered telescope in space, but, still, astronomers are excited. It is 'periodic'. Most comets are like moths. They get attracted to the Sun then burn up after close contact. Others, like Halley's Comet, have a regular orbit. This new one, comes and goes every four years. Sticking with news from space, next Thursday, Soundart Radio, Totnes, will broadcast, live, the sound of a storm on Jupiter. SATURDAY September 29 The eight year cycle of Venus Last month, Saturn changed signs for the first time since 2005. This month, Mars returns to Cancer. Venus, meanwhile, repeats a planetary pattern that forms part of her eight-year cycle. She's doing what she last did back in 1999. There are a lot of lessons we can learn from the past... and clearly the planets want us to draw on our experience now. We are also, though, being invited to look at what we don't know and to bravely enter territory, which - while it seems familiar in some ways - has the potential to pleasantly surprise even the most world-weary amongst us. |
