At this time of year, people focus on the things they want to give up. Or take up. Or catch up on. Or get away from. Understanding takes energy and effort. Consciousness often involves looking at things you'd rather ignore. Yet if you resolve, this year, to become as enlightened, intelligent and informed as possible... you'll succeed in the best possible way. You'll succeed, even if you end up deciding that, on balance, you're going to stick with some of the things you once swore you'd never put up with again. You'll win even if you seem, on the surface, to be giving way. Imagine yourself feeling about as strong as you can be, as content as you can be and as secure as you have ever felt. You WILL reach such a state this year and, to stay in it, all you will have to summon is a willingness to become truly empowered. Truly empowered people never run from anything. They accept setbacks stoically and they know that, if they just keep pushing on towards the highest goal, there is no doubt that a way to reach it will present itself. From the earliest age, our parents and teachers go to great lengths to teach us about our relationship with nature, history, the world... and each other. Yet nobody ever sits down and shows us how to really deal with this weird, volatile phenomenon we call 'money'. So we all grow up with strategies, plans and policies which are in part based on superstition, fear, anxiety and assumption. Plus, often, a desire not to get into the kind of trouble we've seen others get into.

On the one hand, we are afraid of what a bad relationship with money can do to us. On the other, we are encouraged by endless advertising, to feel as if the whole world of dreams ought to be ours to claim. That's what psychologists call a 'dangerously mixed message'. It's no wonder that so many of us find the topic so confusing and that so many arguments, disputes and miusunderstandings turn out to be linked, somehow, to the whole issue of money or the lack of it.

The notion that deprivation need not continue, even if it has occurred in the past, and the idea that disappointment can be forgiven. These are high ideals. This year's big romantic question is... "Who are you really?" An honest answers to such an inquiry is not always easy to attain. We know who we think we are supposed to be. We know what others expect of us. Yet we also know that the reality doesn't quite match the theory, so when we make the comparison, we feel uncomfortable.

But why SHOULD you feel uncomfortable? The newly-discovered planet, Sedna, is currently passing through your very own sector of the sky. She's effectively inviting you to re-invent yourself, not in some superficial 'makeover' kind of a way, but at some extremely profound, important level. As part of this process, you need to look at the number of things in your life that have more to do with obligation than with celebration. You have to decide that you are no longer going to be trapped by boundaries that you dare not break free from.

That does not, repeat not, involve ending anything or even changing some important existing arrangement. It merely means checking that what you feel is genuine.

Events in 2005 will give you plenty of opportunity to do this by ensuring that you get a most luxurious commodity: time to think. Space to yourself. A way to stand back briefly from an intense situation and to decide what it really means. When this occurs, neither fear nor resent it. Just see it as your chance to recognise why, in your life so far, you have not always dared to reach for the very best. Sedna, the newly-discovered planet at the edge of our solar system, is currently passing through your zodiac sign, effectively imbuing you with some of her own legendary power and influence. They support our doubts and anxieties in the worst possible way. When we look to others for approval, we compromise our own integrity, regardless of whether they give us praise or blame.

This year, you get to see, much more clearly, the difference between what you really want and what you feel you 'ought to want'. Life, as it shows you this, will bring you much closer towards the fulfillment of a dream you have always had, but for a long time you suspected you weren't going to be able to pursue.
